When our regular race season ended abruptly on November 1st with the introduction of the second national lockdown here in England, we decided that the One Community event had the potential to turn a really negative end of the year into a positive one. But, we were unsure. The May event grew to be so huge and so overwhelming in many ways that we were concerned about running it again, lest it tarnish that memory.
But once again our community drew together and supported one another through what was another amazing seven days. The interactivity and support on the community page on facebook, via twitter and instagram and via the emails we received were just incredible. There are some wonderful stories each time a virtual event has taken place this year. Thank you to all who took part, for sharing your journeys with us all.
Many individual runners ran for their own chosen charities, raising an incredible amount of much needed revenue for the sector which has been hit so hard by the crisis. As a direct result of the event entry fees, we raised £1,700 for NHS Charities Together and £1,700 for MIND. £2,000 was raised for the Re-Run Random event that went directly to their shoe bank. And a further £600 raised for Trees not Tees.
The full results for each of the seven distances are available via the link at the top of the page.
Finally a thank you to our sponsors who put up the prizes for the event: Ultimate Direction, Injinji, La Sportiva, Tailwind Nutrition and Petzl. They have all been amazing throughout 2020 and supported us through thick and thin, providing literally hundreds of spot prizes for us to give away as part of these virtual weeks.
To all of you, good luck, stay safe and most importantly we hope you continue to enjoy your running. We cannot wait to see you again in person in 2021. One Community will be back one day, when the time is right.
